As of September 2012, Apple officially announced that they have sold over 400 million iOS devices. Nearly ¼ of those devices sold are iPads. When you take this number and factor in Android phones, iPhones and tablets, you are looking at a significantly greater number of users that access the internet from such devices. Simply put, that is a huge number of people that access and use the internet on these devices.

With that being said, you really have no choice but to consider these devices when developing your marketing plan. Here are some ways that these popular mobile devices have changed online marketing strategies.

The very first thing to consider for your business is to build a mobile-friendly website. You can do this one of two ways. You can build a separate website for mobile users, or you can write your website in a mobile compatible manner. This is a bit more complicated and doing so will be more costly.

You also need to make sure you are using some of the mobile applications to market your business. Between 2010 to 2012, mobile device searches increased five times. If a two-year span has made that much difference, just imagine what we will be facing in the next two years.
